San Diego State University:
Description: Henrikson Owen and Associates was the mechanical engineer of an extensive upgrade to San Diego State University’s campus utilities infrastructure. The project consisted of three major project components – upgrades to the steam and condensate return system, expansion of the chilled water distribution system, and upgrades to the natural gas distribution system. Upgrades to the steam and condensate return system were implemented all over campus. These improvements included replacement and reconfiguration of numerous steam manholes and their internal piping and valves. It also included replacement of certain sections of underground steam and condensate return piping and valves around campus. In addition, some new segments of steam and condensate return piping were installed. Finally, a large boiler retrofit was undertaken for compliance with new air emissions regulations. Upgrades to the chilled water system involved expanding the existing chilled water distribution system to additional buildings. This entailed installation of new underground chilled water supply and return pipes and valves. Upgrades to the natural gas supply and distribution system included new segments of polyethylene natural gas piping at various points throughout the campus and 75 new plastic valves throughout campus.
