San Diego State University:
Description: The new satellite BAM Building Chiller/Cooling Tower Plant was designed to operate compatibly with the campus’ much larger Main Chill Plant, which includes a thermal energy storage (TES) system. The new BAM Building chiller/cooling tower plant consists of an 800-ton centrifugal chiller, an 800-ton absorption chiller, a new cooling tower, new condenser water pumps, new primary chilled water pumps, and new secondary chilled water pumps. A DDC computerized monitoring and control system was also installed to control the new chiller plant locally, and through a special interface, allow monitoring and control through the campus energy management system. This is particularly important given the complex control strategies needed for integrated and compatible operation of the campus’ two chiller plants.
